Kia EV6 Electric Crossover India Launch On June 2, 2022

Kia India has announced that it will be launching its upcoming electric car, the Kia EV6 on June 2, 2022. The Korean carmaker earlier announced that  pre-bookings for the electric crossover SUV will open on May 26, with deliveries to start soon. The car will arrive in India as a CBU (Completely built unit) import, and is expected to be priced around ₹ 50-60 lakhs. Initially, only 100 units have been allocated to India to be sold in 2022, and it is likely to be offered in both RWD and AWD variants, with the larger 77.4 kWh battery, with more units and variants expected to follow next year.

The folks at Kia say that the EV6 has the sportiness of a fastback, the stance of a compact hatch, and, perhaps, a little of the raw strength of a rally car too.

Internationally, the Kia EV6 is offered with two battery options, a smaller 58 kWh battery – which wont be available in India at the time of launch – and the larger 77.4 kWh battery which will make its way here. The EV is offered in multiple variants and drivetrains, more on that here. The larger battery pack paired with the RWD powertrains delivers the longest range, with a WLTP certified range of 528 kms. The AWD variant has a much shorter claimed range at 425 kms, but delivers a stronger 320 bhp and 605 Nm of torque.

The EV6 gets a very aggressive and futuristic looking design, and is unsurprisingly loaded to the gills with tech. The electric crossover goes on sale in a vacuum, as at the time of launch, its nearest premium rivals are priced upwards of ₹ 1 Crore. That will soon change of course, as we expect Volvo XC40 Recharge and Hyundai IONIQ 5 to launch in the coming months, both of which will be priced closer to the EV6.
