Prices of petrol and diesel have been increased for the 9th time today accumulating to a total increase of ₹ 6.40 in the last 10 days. Both petrol and diesel prices have gone up 80 paise per litre today, calling for a widespread criticism of the government by other political parties. Opposition parties allege that the almost daily hike in fuel prices is also due to the fact that the government refrained from hiking prices for four months due to assembly elections in five states, despite crude oil prices going up.

Cities | Petrol Prices | Diesel Prices |
---|---|---|

Earlier, some states have also criticised the government for not lowering the value added tax (VAT) saying that the Centre has already made record tax collections through excise duty to hedge against crude oil inflation, and that the benefits weren’t passed on to customers. Prices weren’t reduced despite crude oil prices dipping later. That said, the Centre argued that those gains were used for COVID relief and infrastructural development.
