Suzuki Motorcycle India showcased the Suzuki Katana at the 2020 Auto Expo, and now Suzuki India has teased the upcoming launch of the Katana here in India.

The 2022 Suzuki Katana is expected to be launched in India very soon
Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) has teased the launch of the Suzuki Katana in the Indian market. Suzuki India released a teaser video on its social media channels, confirming that the Katana will indeed be launched in India, a little over two years, since it was first showcased in India at the Auto Expo 2020. The litre-class neo-retro naked is already on sale in overseas markets, and the India-bound Katana will no doubt meet the latest global emission regulations, including India’s BS6 norms.

The 999 cc, four-cylinder motor on the 2022 Suzuki Katana belts out 2 bhp more.
The Suzuki Katana is powered by a 999 cc, inline four-cylinder engine which makes 150 bhp and 106 Nm and comes with a ride-by-wire throttle with three riding modes, 5-step traction control system, bi-directional quickshifter, cornering ABS and low rpm assist. The Katana gets an upside down fork, with 17-inch wheels, with a 120 mm wide front tyre and a 160-section rear tyre. Braking is handled by Brembo-sourced calipers, but the Katana’s 215 kg kerb weight makes it slightly on the heavier side, compared to its rivals in the same segment.

The lightweight, twin-spar aluminium frame on the 2022 Suzuki Katana remains unchanged.
The 2022 Suzuki Katana is expected to be brought in as a full-import, or CBU (Completely Built Unit), or as a CKD (completely knocked down) assembly, which will certainly make the pricing competitive in India. If that’s the case, we expect the Suzuki Katana to be priced at around ₹ 14-15 lakh (Ex-showroom) and will compete against the likes of the BMW S 1000 R and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX.

If Suzuki India assembles the Katana in India, and offers it at an attractive price point, it certainly has the looks and the specs to get attention in the premium segment, provided the pricing is right.

In terms of design, the Suzuki Katana has a more neo-retro design, which is stylish, yet with comfortable ergonomics which should make it easier to ride in everyday conditions in India. We expect Suzuki India to announce the launch of the new Katana in India by July 2022.
