British motorcycle brand BSA was revived by India’s Mahindra Group, and the brand has made its appearance at Britains Goodwood Festival Of Speed.
The new BSA Gold Star motorcycle, the first model unveiled by India’s Classic Legends, a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group, which now owns the storied British motorcycle brand, has made a noteworthy appearance at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed in West Sussex, England. BSA marked an appearance at the event with its new BSA Gold Star motorcycle, which has a 652 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine at its heart, sporting the classic fins that were present on the block of the original air-cooled unit’s design. The new BSA Gold Star participated in a hillclimb event at the festival, which showcases many old and new vehicles, including both two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
The new BSA Gold Star’s single-cylinder engine’s output is 45 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 55 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm and has been developed by BSA in partnership with the Technical University of Graz to meet the latest emission standards. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed gearbox, with a slip and assist clutch. The original BSA Gold Star was sold between 1938 and 1963 and was powered by a range of engines between 350 cc and 500 cc.

Standing for Birmingham Small Arms Company Ltd, BSA was founded in 1861, for the production of firearms. The brand’s motorcycle division was set up in 1903, and the first motorcycle was introduced in 1910. By the 1950s, BSA was the world’s largest motorcycle maker, with one in every four motorcycles sold worldwide sporting the BSA badge, and it was one of the most popular British motorcycle brands across the world along with Triumph, Norton and Royal Enfield.

BSA Motorcycle Company ceased operations in the 1970s, but the brand and rights to the motorcycle business was acquired by Classic Legends Private Limited, a subsidiary of India’s Mahindra Group in 2016. Towards the end of last year, iconic British motorcycle brand BSA was revived by Classic Legends by unveiling the new BSA Gold Star at Motorcycle Live, NEC Birmingham. The new BSA Gold Star is a modern classic motorcycle which takes design inspiration from BSA motorcycles of the past, including BSA’s most successful motorcycle, the Gold Star.
